ABOUT HOISINGTON GALLERIES
Hoisington Galleries (HG) is a hybrid art gallery that aims to bring back the "soul of art" to the original pattern of art spaces from the history of art through the following:
-
as a boutique, niche, experimental, and fringe private gallery
-
where the relationship with the artist is the ultimate art experience
-
being approachable, assessable, and audience-centric
-
showcasing art based on the shared values of the collector and the artist
-
curating art that feels good, elevates the spirit, and educates with long-lasting rewards
-
where confident collectors can make personal decisions on their art-buying choices
-
as a kind and transparent space for the visual arts
Hoisington Galleries (HG), first established by Singapore pioneer artist and sculptor, Vincent Hoisington in 1972, is revived today by his only daughter, artist-art director-author Karen Hoisington, as a private art museum and gallery to offer a hybrid platform for contemporary art, focusing on programmes that audiences care about. Rethinking its curatorial practice, HG aims to distinguish itself as a disruptive gallery model by bringing unconventional art collections to encourage imaginative activities that help its audiences see the world in new ways and provide access to creative ways of knowing and self-development.

"I try my hardest to buy directly from artists whenever I can. I like the old-school experience of touring a studio, getting to know the artist and their mindset behind the work, and seeing where the magic happens. It feels special to be in the presence of greatness when you are allowed the opportunity to tour a studio." – Sam Charney

ART IN THE SINGAPORE CONTEXT
Art can serve as a reflective, forward-looking and versatile expression of Singapore's national identity. They help draw Singaporeans of all backgrounds into the national conversation about our shared values and heritage. This equips the nation with the will and creative resources to thrive. Over the recent years, the growing art scene in Singapore has gathered much attention across the globe. Singapore has bloomed from an important financial hub to a centre of art and culture. Singapore's export of works of art is set to grow 2.6% yearly, reaching $468 million by 2026. This is up from $401 million in 2021 when Singapore came in at number seven in the world rankings (Source: Singapore Art Industry Outlook 2022 - 2026 - ReportLinker)
What makes Singapore's art more distinctive is its merging of the recognized European with the symbolism in the beauty of Asia.
This unique amalgamation of Eastern and Western heritage, as well as a dichotomy of modernity and traditions, allows the country's fusion of cultures, backgrounds, and philosophies to provide a rich canvas for Singapore artists to explore their voices and create one-of-a-kind works of art.
